M. Shadows – You are an absolute inspiration to my brother and I. We’ve been listening to A7X since you came on the scene, and I wish he could see this. He’s in a sober college, so I can’t talk to him yet, but I know he’d want me to tell you that he loves you guys. He even has a replica of Syn’s guitar, which he can play most of your songs on. I guess this isn’t really a question, but I just thought it would make his life if you could reply with a “Hi Alec” 🙂 I want to do something for him for being so strong throughout all he’s going through, and this would be perfect. Even if this gets downvoted into oblivion, I’m glad I had the chance to try.

Hi alec! rock on brotha!

Hi Shadows! Huge fan of A7X, old and new material.
I have a few questions, if you don’t mind.
Is there any chance of A7X releasing Nightmare demos with The Rev playing, or any demos at all? I know of the song “Nightmare” with him on the electric kit, but I’m sure the fans will take everything they can get.
More of a comment, but I really liked that you let the fans vote for songs they wanted to hear! It was cool to hear MIA and I Won’t See You Tonight, both some of my favorites, brought back into rotation.
In an interview in May you spoke about doing something no other band had done before. Was that the Black Ops video, or something yet to come?
I totally understand if this is out of line, but please understand I mean no disrespect. The song “Fiction” is very eerie, and I’m not the first person to contemplate it being a suicide note from Jimmy. With the original title of “Death,” the lyrics being about the world overcoming a man, and talking about “I hope you find your own way when I’m not with you,” it’s not too much of a stretch. However, I also understand that the album was originally intended to be a concept album. Could you shed some light on the subject, one way or the other?
A7X means a lot to me and my friends. We love playing your songs on Rock Band, seeing you guys in concert, and having “A7X Nights” where we watch All Excess, the Self Titled Documentary, Live in the LBC, and then the So Far Away music video.
Thank you very much for your time, it means a lot. I hope I never come up against you in CoD, you were brutal with that shotgun in the live stream today.

1) possibly one day… I dont want to sell anything of the revs… so if we release it it should be free 3) yet to come 4)Jimmy was a happy guy and loved his fam and friends… I knew him my whole life… I doubt there is anything more to those lyrics. When he wrote a sad sounding song he always left sad sounding scratch lyrics..

Hi, my questions are for Matt. First off I’d just like to say how much I appreciate Avenged Sevenfold. Your music is just incredible and the way you treat your fans is a cut above every other band. Thank you so much.
1. I heard that Nightmare was destined to be a concept album, but after Jimmy’s tragic passing you decided against it. Is a concept record in the works for the future?
2. Will you ever release the demo of Fiction where only Jimmy is singing?
3. What are your opinions on the fanfiction about Avenged Sevenfold, especially how you are often paired with Brian? Have you ever read any?
4. When will you next come to England?
5. Could you possibly get the rest of A7X to do an AMA please?
Thank you for doing this, keep making your great music, we love you!
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 43 punti 29 minuti fa
1) true but not sure about the future 2) HMMM maybe its kinda personal though 3)Not even sure what that is 4) asap this summer for sure love england 5) ill try haha

When do you think A7X will start working on a new album?
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 79 punti 40 minuti fa
expect something this summer

This is for Shadows: What is your absolute favorite song to perform?
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 106 punti 41 minuti fa
Hey… a little piece of heaven nightmare for heavier stuff

Hey Matt!
I guess I just wanna get the obvious questions out of the way first;
1) How are things going with Arin?
2) When can we expect new material?
Carry On is awesome by the way.
Thanks!
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 36 punti 37 minuti fa
Arins been great, we are happy. and next summer

Did the COD guys approach you asking for a song for the game, or was it something you wanted to do yourselves? Also, did you get total creative control over the song, or did you make any changes based on studio feedback?
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 21 punti 16 minuti fa
We had creative control over song… just had to be under 4 min. for animation purposes. and yes we wanted to do it… movies and games ask for music all the time, but we love cod so we were happy to be a part of it

If you had no affiliation with either Call of Duty or Treyarch, and you could buy only one of the following, would you choose Halo 4, Battlefield 3 or CoD – Black Ops 2?
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 10 punti 13 minuti fa
Black ops 2 hands down I have a lot of friends who play the other games but I like fast paced action

Matt:
How is things going on with new songwriting? Any new album in the making?
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 102 punti 40 minuti fa
New album is awesome hahah and yes its coming soon

(1) Why not make Arin a full time member NOW? He kicked ass on “Carry On” and he’s an incredible drummer … (and I wish he had been included in the video you just released).
(2) When will we get “official word” as to the “Little Shad” who we understand came to be at some point over the summer? Hmmmmm?
(3) What happened to the Live DVD that was supposed to feature footage from the Far East performances last spring, and also from the shows in Canada, Mohegan Sun Arena and Orion?
And BTW … I love Avenged Sevenfold … R.I.P. Jimmy
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 32 punti 20 minuti fa
Arin…. is that you?? hahah dvd coming

Can we Expect A.) A zombie map which features Avenged Sevenfold and also will you be performing Carry On when you begin a new touring cycle
iammshadowsM. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)[S] 26 punti 35 minuti fa
zombies map would be rad… let treyarch know! also is the fans want carry on then they shall receive

Thank you for doing this AMA. I am a HUGE fan of ALL your music, ever since hearing Bat Country in the fifth grade playing Madden 2006. I feel as though you guys really try to connect with the listener through your songs through the subtle things that many people might not be able to hear, but “feel”, coupled on top of catchy choruses/riffs, blistering solos, energy-ridden drum beats/fills, an amazingly-unique lead voice, and absolutely gripping lyrics. That is something that I can truly appreciate in an artist, and also why I am in love with everything and anything you guys put out.
I absolutely loved “The Making of Avenged Sevenfold”, where the band gave a little insight to the process of making music. I’ve watched that literally fifty times. Is there any chance that there would be some kind of “Making Of” for the next album you guys put out?
I would like to travel back in time to your “Sounding the Seventh Trumpet” days, specifically to a song titled “We Come Out at Night”. That song gives me chills because of the mood and tone it creates when I listen to it. It is just fantastic how you guys can create such a feel through instruments. This goes for ALL of your songs. Have you guys always been all about creating a mood for your songs since the beginning of the band’s formation? Were you consciously aware of making sure that your songs had some kind of tone/vibe to it? (Seriously, what was going through your minds when you made “Breaking their Hold”? I’ve NEVER heard anything like it anywhere else. It’s just a fantastic piece).
I need to ask about Syn’s solos. They are OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD. The solos in Lost, Dear God, Second Heartbeat, Strength of the World, Bat Country, The Fight, Chapter Four, Buried Alive, Save Me, Scream.. they are just amazing. What is the process in creating these solos? Do they involve multiple people, or does Syn just come up to the band and just let one rip? I would like to also point out the difficulty or the shred factor of these solos aren’t what strike me the most… it’s the creativity. How does Syn (or whoever is in on the solos) choose the next note?
Why don’t you guys ever play songs from “Diamonds in the Rough”? I would absolutely LOVE to see songs like Demons, Crossroads, Until the End, The Fight, and Dancing Dead live. The solo in Dancing Dead is just amazing.
I would like to venture to the song “Sidewinder” from “City of Evil”. The drum fills in that song are just absolutely amazing, and is a song I’ve been striving to learn for quite a while. Was Jimmy always a creative mastermind? Were his drum fills created solely by him? Like the drum solo in “Demons”, I really can’t imagine any one person creating such creative masterpieces on their own. It’s a different level of original and unique.
I also need to ask about your voice, M. Shadows. It is seriously the most unique singing voice I’ve ever heard. It has a raspy tone to it, yet it is soft when it needs to be and hard when the song calls for it. Is the raspiness a part of your natural voice or was it somehow crafted through early screaming? Either way, the amount of work I know you put into your singing voice really did pay off. Anytime I let my friends listen to songs like Strength of the World, Tonight the World Dies, Unbound (The Wild Ride), I get the same reaction. They are all in complete awe of your voice.
There are many biblical references throughout your music. Do you have a Catholic background? (I know you guys aren’t religious, just wondering if maybe you were raised Catholic or something).
The Wicked End. There is a huge orchestra part in the middle of it; who thought of and wrote that song? It is seriously an epic piece.
Do lyrics or songs come first usually? Lyrics in songs like “Save Me” are so gripping that I can’t imagine making a song to fit the words, and yet you guys somehow made the actual song just as amazing as the lyrics.
I would LOVE to know your top three favorite songs that you’ve made.
Who wrote Victim? The intro and the ending part put me on a different planet every time I hear it. It brings tears to my eyes; it’s beautiful.
You guys had Metallica, Pantera, etc. My last question is; do you/have you ever stopped and realized that you are this generation’s Metallica/Pantera/Black Sabbath? I’m sure that you’re going to come up with some humble answer, but seriously… I’m telling you that my dream one day is to meet you guys. I know you guys idolized Metallica; its the same way for fans my age towards you. In the future, we won’t be talking about Metallica to our children… we’ll be talking about Avenged Sevenfold. I will be talking about Avenged Sevenfold.
I would like to humbly and geniunely point out that Jimmy sparked my passion for drums. My biggest regret so far in my life is not being able to see him live. I would never have picked up a pair of sticks without him. He was, and still is my sole inspiration for drumming. He, and the rest of your band, taught me to own the music that I make, and that creativity and originality will beat out any sort of fancy beats/riffs that have been regurgitated from song to song. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you guys for what you are doing, and would like to say that my taste and passion for music have been shaped from the material that you guys make.
I will be looking forward to your next release, and everything you put out afterwards. I will never stop listening to your music.

Thanks 1) yes.. we didnt do it for nightmare because it was a very personal time for us 2) without a vibe there is no direction.. vibe is huge to us 3) syn is amazing creatively, we all have say though, he has no ego and wants whats best for the song 4) im not a fan of those songs.. thats why they didnt make the record.. some cool parts but not quite there as a song 5) sidewinder was written by me and syn, but all the drum fills were 100% the rev 6)its natural thanks 7) yes and I am the furthest thing from a religious person 8) syn and myself 9) song came first, lyrics were easy. Its easy to write lyrics when your in pain from losing your best friend unfortunately 10) as of now. ALPOH, Buried Alive and Afterlife 11) victim was the first song I wrote for nightmare 12) Thats so cool of you.. we have a long way to go but just doing our best to make music! thanks man!
