Guitar World ha stilato una lista dei venti migliori musicisti di questa ultima decade. Ovviamente non poteva mancare il nostro Synyster Gates in questa classifica insieme a colleghi illustri come John Petrucci, Mark Tremonti, Nita Strauss, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai ed altri.

Synyster Gates is about as metal as they come – he does, after all, call himself Synyster Gates and play a somewhat evil-looking Schecter Synyster Custom guitar. But while the Avenged Sevenfold axeman shreds with deadly speed and constructs dizzying sweeps and dual harmony lines, he’s hardly your average metal player.

He has a lifelong love for, and seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of, jazz and fusion styles (“When I was 18 and wanting to play shit way over everybody’s head, [Barney] Kessel was my guy,” he once told GW), and also a fearlessness when it comes to pushing the limits of his style – he defined A7X’s most recent album, The Stage, as “Star Wars on metal steroids.”

More recently, he has discussed working on his rasgueado technique and said that he’ll one day record a jazz solo album. Pushing the guitar envelope, he told us, is “literally everything to me now. If I’ve done it before, it doesn’t interest me.”

Synyster Gates è un po’ metal come capita, dopo tutto si fa chiamare Synyster Gates e suona una Schecter Synyster Custom dall’aspetto un po’ malvagio.
Mentre il solista degli A7X shredda a velocità micidiali e costruisce curve vertiginose e linee doppie di armonica, non puoi certo definirlo un chitarrista metal comune.
Synyster Gates ha un amore da sempre, e ha la conoscenza di un’enciclopedia, per il jazz e gli stili fusion (“Quando avevo 18 anni volevo suonare e scavalcare chiunque, e Barbey Kessel era il mio mito” ha detto una volta a noi di GW), ed è anche senza paura alcuna quando si tratta di spingersi oltre i limiti del suo stile. Ha definito il loro lavoro più recente, The Stage, come il loro “Star Wars sotto steroidi metal”.
Recentemente ha parlato del lavoro sulla sua tecnica rasgueado e spiegato che un giorno registrerà un disco jazz come solista. Il suo modo di spingersi con gli effetti, ci ha detto essere per lui “veramente incredibile. Se l’ho fatto prima non m’interessa”
