Non so come cominciare o capire da dove iniziare. Prima di tutto voglio ringraziare tutti i fans per il loro supporto durante la venuta a mancare di Jimmy.
È stato confortante vedere i suoi fans, i nostri fans e tutti quelli che in generale han dato il loro supporto.
Jimmy era il mio migliore amico, come lo era di molte altre persone inclusi i membri degli Avenged Sevenfold. Era senza dubbio la più grande persona che ho mai conosciuto. Gli ho ripetuto che l’ho amato ogni singolo giorno. Lui chiedeva il tuo amore e non era mai stato intimorito nel ricambiartelo. Ho camminato fianco a fianco con Jimmy, ogni giorno, in tutti gli ultimi 18 anni della mia vita. Non ho ricordi prima di Jimmy, e sarà dannatamente difficile andare avanti senza averlo qui. Ancora non sembra reale.
Lui era il mio migliore amico, il co autore di canzoni, compagno di band, confidente e cosa più importante, era mio fratello. La cosa pazza di Jimmy era che ogni giorno c’era qualcosa di pazzo. Ci siamo raccontati le nostre storie preferite su Jimmy nelle ultime due settimane e nessuno si è mai ripetuto.
Questo ragazzo era magico. L’arte che scrosciava fuori dalla sua anima era talmente speciale che il mondo non l’aveva mai vista prima. Che tu avessi passato un giorno con Jimmy, o 18 anni, è impossibile da spiegare, quindi neanche ci provo. Lui ha ispirato le persone in tanti modi. Non era solo un batterista, a lui onestamente non fregava cosi tanto del lato tecnico della batteria, perché lui poteva suonare tutto quello che voleva.
Lui era tutto concentrato a creare canzoni bellissime, originali e fortunatamente toccando le persone con la sua arte e la sua mente. Ci ha sempre detto per anni, anche ai suoi genitori, che sapeva due cose della vita. Lui voleva essere una rockstar e diceva che non avrebbe superato i trent’anni.
Aveva ragione su entrambe le cose, ma io so che Jimmy, se avesse saputo quanto dolore questo avrebbe causato per le persone che lasciava, avrebbe fatto qualunque cosa per riuscire a rimanere un po’ di più. Jimmy ha dato molto e alla fine e questo era il suo momento di andare.
Tutte le mie ragioni per volerlo ancora qui sono egoiste e so che lui è in un posto migliore di questo, quindi in un certo senso sono felice che il mio migliore amico sia adesso in pace.
È stato il primo ad andare dall’altra parte e non posso che aspettare di ritrovarlo ancora. Ho molto da dire ma non trovo le parole e aspetterò quindi il momento che mi permetterà di trovare il modo migliore di esprimermi. Per il resto di noi, è diventato chiaro quello che abbiamo bisogno di fare.
Avevamo appena finito di scrivere il disco con Jimmy. Non posso promettere cosa riserverà il futuro perché al momento è troppo doloroso pensarci, ma sappiamo che abbiamo bisogno di registrare e far uscire questo disco in onore di Jimmy e per Jimmy.
Lui mi chiamava ogni sera per parlare delle canzoni e dirmi “questa roba cambierà il mondo!”.
Sono d’accordo con lui, sfortunatamente non sapevo che sarebbe stato per queste circostanze. Per favore siate pazienti con noi, non possiamo immaginare quanto sia difficile andare avanti, sappiamo soltanto che dobbiamo fare per la sua eredità. Dopodichè, chissà? Ma so che Jimmy ci aiuterà a prendere la decisione quando sarà il momento di farlo.

As I’m sure you have all heard by now, Jimmy Sullivan passed away on Dec. 28th.
I first met him when he was 14. He came to my house and played the drums exactly the way he played up ‘til now – with flawless technique and reckless abandon. He was, and remains, the most talented musician I have ever met. An artist almost beyond comprehension. He was an unbelievable writer, pianist, and singer that could have made a name for himself doing just those things. But he didn’t. He simply chose to be one of the best drummers on the planet.
Perhaps more importantly, he was a free-spirit who saw the world differently than you and me. His world was measured in quality of relationships, music and art. I knew him well and never heard him speak about politics once. I cherish our long talks about music and life. He remains the only person I have ever known, who truly didn’t care what people thought of him. He said exactly what was on his mind with no thought of editing. Not in a bad or hostile way, but almost like a child. A rare quality, indeed.
But as is always the case with a person of such pure spirit, he was simply too beautiful and fragile to walk this earth for long. God touched him with the gift of art, but not the gift of resilience to handle a harsh and cruel world. I would love to share the many memories I have of him from the time he was a boy up until now, but I simply can’t bring myself to. Not yet, anyway. Perhaps when the crying is done. We were all touched by him in many different ways and we will all share in his loss. And though there will forever be a hole in my heart in that place Jimmy occupied, I feel blessed just to have known him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his “brothers” in the band.

Its almost been 2 weeks since we hit this storm of sadness! for the loss of one of my brothers for one of my dearest friends that walked this planet!. the last 2 weeks have been so hard and filled with sadness. We have all been threw a lot in our lives Im sure of that, Ive been threw hell and back in my life, losing Jimmy made me sad and hate everything around me for a bit!. until I remembered that the man you all knew as “THE REV” was the most amazing human being that this world has ever laid their eyes on. the amount of love this KID had to give out was endless. I have had the pleasure of having him in my life for all these years and I only wish there was another 20 years for more memories.. Jimmy had so many best friends I cant even begin to tell you, the best part of all of that is that its very true, he was everyones best friend he really wanted to show his love and make sure you knew he loved you. I remember about 4 years ago Jimmy flew back to Los Angeles for my birthday and we went to this show in LA called “METAL SKOOL” now called “steel panther” witch is an 80’s cover band, and I didn’t think he was gonna come BUT he did and that night I remember it was right around the time when “BAT COUNTRY” was smashing the charts and AVENGED SEVENFOLD was pretty much telling the world that METAL ISNT DEAD and they are the new kings in town. BUT that night I remember “Phil Anselmo singer of PANTERA” was there and for those of you who know about AVENGED SEVENFOLD you know they all love PANTERA and most of all The REV loves them as well, well “METAL SKOOL” is famous for calling famous bands out when they go see them! and that night Jimmy was like “there is NO way in hell Im going on stage tonight Tal! I just wanna hang with you and have a good time on your birthday” haahahahah Well they called him out and then they called Phil out as well and Jimmy was like the only way I will go on there is if we play “WALK” and surely they played that song, and I remember going on stage with Jimmy and him looking at me and screaming to me “THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE”. I have been thinking about that night over and over and oveeeeer again in my head! there has been hundreds thousands of nights with Jimmy and I, so many story’s classics that I cant even begin to tell you guys! I have been spending time with all the guys and they are all so strong we have all been telling each other story’s about THE REV and how he touched all of our hearts, We will never EVER have another Jimmy Sullivan he was to good. It was an Honer to have known you my friend you are forever my brother and I will never forget the good times you gave me “Pictures and Memories”….

Lo scorso giugno, prendendosi un po’ di tempo durante le registrazioni del loro terzo album, Matt e i suoi compagni Padge, Jay e Moose, noleggiando una macchina si sono diretti ad Huntington Beach per visitare i loro amici A7X. Dal momento che le due band avevano condiviso le tappe in tutta l’America del Taste of Chaos 2008, eran diventati grandi amici e i Bullet erano impazienti di scambiare due parole con i loro amici dopo un sacco di tempo chiusi in studio. Fu proprio allora che trovarono i Sevenfold di buon umore, mentre lavoravano anch’essi al loro prossimo album. Vedendo i suoi amici transatlantici, Jimmy si gettò sul quartetto imitando qualche mossa di wrestling per scaraventarli in terra, in un momento di primordiale eccitazione, cercando di morderli. Come dice Matt con un sorriso affettuoso, Jimmy era fuori di testa. Sette mesi più tardi, nel gennaio di quest’anno, Matt si è ritrovato di nuovo ad HB ma in circostanze nettamente diverse. Era il giorno del funerale di Jimmy Sullivan, e Matt se ne stava nella cucina di M. Shadows. I due, circondati da omaggi floreali per il loro amico, ascoltavano il demo di una nuova canzone degli A7X, una bella ballata al pianoforte scritta e cantata da Jimmy. E in quel momento, il mondo della musica e tutti i successi delle rispettive band, tutti i dischi d’oro, tutti gli show sold-out, tutte le recensioni, non avevano nessuna importanza per i due amici. “Una cosa come la morte di Rev, ha messo in prospettiva quello che è davvero importante” dice Matt. “Penso di esser cresciuto molto negli ultimi anni, Voglio dire, apprezzo e sono grato per la mia vita; ho una ragazza che mi adora, una bella casa, un gruppo fantastico di amici, non voglio questo per niente, era così prima che la band che avevo fottesse tutto. Io adoravo stare a casa, ero in debito con i miei genitori, non avevo niente. Ma so che ci sono priorità più grandi di me.”

[After Jimmy’s service], we went to Shadows house and had a few drinks, telling our best Jimmy stories and we laughed until we cried. The Rev has more stories about him than any other person I know. Stories we couldn’t tell in a church, stories that sound like exaggerations but they aren’t. The Rev is rock ‘n’ roll through and through. One of the greats. One of those souls that comes along so rarely and just touches every single person around him. To know Jimmy is to love Jimmy. If you happen to have spent an evening out with The Rev on tour somewhere or at some get together or function, well, you were best friends for life after that. And Jimmy didn’t forget it. It’s not an act. I must have heard 50 people call Jimmy their best friend [during the service]. And they meant it. Loveable is a great word to describe Jimmy. Endearing. Kind hearted. Carefree. A fucking legend!
“I’m just talking about the kid who, as Shadows recalled, took communion in a ‘Slayer Fucking Slayer’ T-shirt when he was 12, dancing up the church aisle the whole way, making all the kids laugh. I’m talking about the guy that who stood up to his all time musical hero, for talking disrespectfully to his best friend’s girl. He doesn’t judge people. Rev didn’t have a bad bone in his body. That quality… It is impossible to describe, he was just born with it. That’s just The Rev.
“I took you for granted, Rev,” he continues. “I took for granted being able to hang with you at the family get-togethers and holidays over the years. I took for granted watching you play drums. I took for granted our conversations. And fuck man, watching you play drums! You want to love music? Watch The Rev play drums. Listen to him play on a demo. Listen to him play on a record.
“Good Charlotte and A7X are more than just bands,” says Benji. “We are family. We celebrate each other’s lives together, holidays, weddings, kids being born. Successes and failures. Jimmy is at the heart and soul of all of it. He has taught me more then anyone I ever met in any church. And now you get to live forever, Jimmy. You are one of the greats.
