Intervistato da Metal Hammer, Matt rilascia qualche novità interessante sul prossimo album degli Avenged Sevenfold.

“In January, we’re going in to finish the strings on the record,” Shadows reveals to Metal Hammer. “The record’s been recorded for a year, but we haven’t been able to put the real strings on it, because we couldn’t fly out to Prague. When an orchestra have to social distance and they aren’t sitting next to each other, they can get out of tune, and we have just finally got to a place where we can use this 70-piece orchestra as we intended. We finish the record in February, mix it in March.”

Matt spiega che la band ha registrato il nuovo album per un anno, ma hanno avuto problemi con le parti a corda dell’orchestra che verrano completate a Gennaio. Questo ritardo è stato causato dalla registrazione a distanza dovuta alla pandemia, la band non poteva volare a Praga; non essendo tutti presenti quindi, alcuni musicisti potevano andare fuori tono non permettendo di raggiungere il sound desiderato. Questo problema ora è risolto e l’obiettivo è finire l’album a Febbraio e mixarlo a Marzo

Asked by Hammer’s Stephen Hill for “any little pointers of where the sound of the record is taking you”, Shadows responds “There are so many influences…”

“We’re very influenced by Kanye West,” the singer continues. “The thing about Kanye is that he is pulling from such great soul music. I didn’t grow up with that stuff – my dad listened to Boston and Alice Cooper, I didn’t get that taste of black music and old soul. So, diving deep into jazz musicians… we’re not trying to do a jazz record, but the chord changes and progressions are so eye-opening to us.”

Questa parte è stata un pò decontestualizzata da alcune testate. Matt spiega infatti che il nuovo album ha diverse influenze tra cui anche alcune parti soul particolarmente riuscite di Kanye West. Questo lo ha avvicinato ad uno stile musicale che non conosceva particolarmente (la musica jazz) e che ha dato alcune idee per il nuovo album come I cambi di accordo e le progressioni tipiche di questo genere, anche se tende a sottolineare che non stanno facendo un album jazz.

Nel breve sunto postato in questo articolo, Matt afferma anche che The Stage è il suo disco preferito ed è molto contento di come sia stato rilasciato. Conclude dicendo che non sa come verrà reso disponibile il prossimo, ma non è legato alle metodiche delle case discografiche, il suo obiettivo è raggiungere le persone, quindi afferma di aspettarsi altre idee stravaganti.
